On their fourth LP, “Set the Dial,” Black Tusk still play ear-splittin’ sludge metal with vocals from the bowels of the swamp. Fans of Black Tusk will find no reason to be disappointed with this brutal, sharp onslaught. Newcomers will find ample reason to discover the power trio from Savannah as one of today’s metal bands that consistently delivers the goods. Check out “This Time is Divine” for their uptempo sludgecore with very effective call-and-response vocals. Together with Kylesa and Baroness (whose guitarist/singer, John Dyer Baizley, is once more responsible for the excellent artwork), Black Tusk define the spearhead of contemporary sludge metal.
