memo
“Dead Wolf Situation” is the debut album by brother/sister duo The Hysterical Injury from Bath. Annie and Tom Gardiner are out to get you with distorted bass, forward propelling drum beats and female vocals. While Annie Gardiner’s powerful bass playing is awesome her singing on two or three songs needs some getting used to, especially when she enters a higher register. “Halo Alkanes” is a muscular opener that shakes you up, the music has drive and the playing is formidable. While “Icebreak” has equally gripping music on offer, Annie’s falsetto voice would not have been my first choice (mark my politeness). “Vex” hooks you with a very nice, crispy bass line and enchanting singing. The contrast between the harsh bass guitar and the lovely, at times even fragile voice makes up the charm of the album. “Visions of Trees,” “Rainbow Thunderclap” and “Skyline Interface” are absolutely smashing tracks that show a powerful, playful band in action.
