The Japanese sound wizard Goth-Trad releases his fourth album on Mala’s Deep Medi imprint. And „New Epoch“ fits well into Deep Medi’s bass-heavy and somewhat traditional dubstep aesthetic. Most of the album’s eleven tracks are firmly rooted in dubstep’s original „meditate on bassweight“ half-step mechanics, but being aware of his roots doesn’t mean that Goth-Trad doesn’t strive to explore other aspects of electronic music. And, on these explorations he incorporates day-glo synth-funk („Mirage“), distorted techno and juke-infused roughness („Air Breaker“) or cinematic, string-laden beauty (on the album’s opener „Man In The Maze“). But, it doesn't come as a surprise that a track with a prominent wobble-bassline is the album's closing track ("Babylon Fall"). ”New Epoch“ will appeal as much to dubstep traditionalists as it will to lovers of what the genre has become over the last few years.
