Type Records are celebrating their 100th release with the reissue of one of techno’s long out-of-print classics: Porter Ricks’ seminal „Biokinetics“. Originally released in 1996, it was the first ever album release on Moritz von Oswald’s and Mark Ernestus’ Chain Reaction label and it compiled the three groundbreaking 12 inches previously released by Andy Mellweg and Thomas Köner aka Porter Ricks. While the minimalist and hypnotic dub techno template Ernestus and von Oswald famously created with their projects Maurizio and Basic Channel was deeply infused by dub’s earthy warmth, Mellweg and Köner took that template into the vast space of sub-aquatic depth. The result was a listening experience that made you feel like you were floating in a submarine through the ocean, exploring yet unknown underwater worlds and sounds. This album is a true journey full of submerged industrial beats and washes of swirling abstract textures. Fifteen years after its first release „Biokinetics“ still sounds as unique and utterly brilliant as back in the day. A milestone in techno’s explorative and experimental history. Truly meditative stuff.
