Shigeto returns with his second album on Ann Arbor’s Ghostly International. And „Lineage“  is mighty mellow with lush synths, sparkling melodies and jazzy keys on top of laid-back and low-slung beat-tricknology. Some of the eight tracks feel like sketches and interludes neatly woven together to one cohesive and soothing album full of dusty basement beauty. It’s a heady brew Shigeto has mixed up here. Listen to „Soaring“ for instance with its harp-samples layered for psychedelic effect, or the skipping 4x4-swagger of „A Child’s Mind“ - those melodies are just hard to resist. „Field Trip“ with its euphoric bells, sweet keys and its driving beat might be the highlight of the bunch, but that’s up for debate. If you like contemporaries like Teebs or Paul White you will certainly enjoy Shigeto’s beat alchemy.
