With their techno project, Emptyset, James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas have made a name for themselves as purveyors of sonic exploration and experimentation and „Medium“ is arguably their most experimental and ambitious release, yet. For „Medium,“ the duo took all their analogue equipment to an abandoned 19th Century Victorian Gothic Mansion on the countryside in Gloucestershire and used the rooms and spaces of this mansion for extensive sonic experiments and recording sessions. The unusual shapes of the rooms and the washes of noise and bass Ginzburg and Purgas unleashed in them result in five dark and mysterious pieces of heavy electro-accoustic exploration, demanding and captivating at the same time. To intensify the evocative effect of the compositions you can google the Mansion for a few pictures of this incredible building and its rooms. The perfect setting for a horror flick, that’s for sure. If you like Pan Sonic, Roly Porter or the recently released Carter Tutti Void album, this one is for you.
