Chicago-based drum-machine lover and celebrated producer of countless raw, but catchy house tracks, Tevo Howard, goes all nostalgic as The Black Electro Orchestra, covering a few of his favourite pop hits from the 80s. Culture Club, Joe Jackson, Eurythmics, Depeche Mode and Madonna all feature. Tevo Howard’s use of bright pads and keys emphasizes the nostalgic feel of the six cover versions. Even the distorted electrofied version of „Sweet Dreams“ can’t shake off that mood. The production is minimal and quite rough around the edges (the bassline and the chords in the version of Joe Jackson’s classic „Stepping Out“ keep slipping in and out of tune for instance), but there is this energy of rough-and-ready imperfection that is simply disarmingly charming.
