Searching For Sugar ManRodriguez

This soundtrack from a documentary about an obscure folk singer, collects the highlights from these two albums, demonstrating that his melancholic songs are as timeless as those of many of his contemporaries.

This is the soundtrack to the documentary film “Searching for Sugar Man” about the obscure folk singer Rodriguez. The film had its premiere on the Sundance Film Festival 2012. For the intriguing story of Rodriguez’ life it is recommended to watch the documentary. This soundtrack collects highlights from the singer’s two albums, “Cold Fact” (1970) and “Coming from Reality” (1971). Starting his quickly aborted career 45 years ago, Rodriguez didn’t enjoy the success of contemporaries like Bob Dylan – a thing that is not quite understandable when listening to great melancholic folk pop tunes like “Sugar Man.” Later on, his albums went platinum in South Africa, where his lyrics and music struck a chord, and listening to the soundtrack it becomes obvious why. These songs may be from the early 70s, but their heartfelt heaviness is timeless, and it was time they underwent a revival, even if it is as the soundtrack to a film about their composer’s own obscurity and how he regained some deserved attention.
