"Confess" proves that George Lewis Jr. has grown as a songwriter and producer, already leaving his mark on today's musical map. He has finally shaken off the chillwave stamp, giving back pop some of the coolness it deserves

There's no doubt that George Lewis Jr.  2010 album "Forget" had been a remarkable and straightforward debut. The dream pop-esque voyage of Brooklynite flirting with 80s New Wave, received mostly positive reviews and made it on Pitchfork's "The Top 50 Albums of 2010" list. Who would have thought that "Confess" would be able to top this? Not even a suggestion of uncertainty, every song cuts right to the chase. George Lewis Jr.'s voice is bursting with self-confidence and makes "Confess" a feast for the listener's ears.

The opener "Golden Light" straightens out immediately that we're dealing with a pop album and a pretty smart one, too. "Five Seconds" is the unchallenged highlight on the album, including the brilliant video (which reminds me of "Twin Peaks" and "The Outsiders" in equal parts).

I personally love "The One," because it perfectly triggers my John-Hughes addiction and above all sounds a bit like Datarock's "Amarillion."
